Sedation

Sedation is used to keep pets calm and still for procedures that may otherwise be stressful or uncomfortable. At Lougheed Animal Hospital, we select sedatives based on your pet’s medical history, age, and the nature of the procedure. This approach helps reduce anxiety and promotes smoother handling, especially for imaging, wound care, or minor interventions that do not require full general anesthesia.

General Anesthesia

Some surgical or diagnostic procedures require your pet to be fully unconscious. At Lougheed Animal Hospital, we administer general anesthesia with careful consideration, using protocols tailored to your pet’s size, breed, and health condition. Pre-anesthetic evaluations and supportive medications are part of our process, and we monitor vital signs continuously to help manage your pet’s comfort and stability throughout the procedure and recovery phase.

Patient Monitoring

Patient monitoring is an essential part of any procedure involving anesthesia or sedation. At Lougheed Animal Hospital, we monitor heart rate, respiratory rate, temperature, and other key indicators throughout your pet’s treatment. These observations help us respond to changes in real-time and adjust care when necessary. Our goal is to maintain a safe and controlled environment during every stage of your pet’s procedure.

Local Anesthesia

Local anesthesia may be used for minor procedures where targeted pain control is needed without full sedation. At Lougheed Animal Hospital, this method is often applied during wound repairs, dental extractions, or mass removals. It allows your pet to remain awake but comfortable while reducing the amount of medication required overall. We tailor the approach based on the site and extent of the treatment.

Oxygen Therapy

Oxygen therapy supports pets experiencing breathing difficulties due to various medical conditions. At Lougheed Animal Hospital, we provide supplemental oxygen when needed, either before, during, or after procedures or as part of emergency stabilization. We assess each pet's respiratory status closely and determine whether oxygen delivery via mask, cage, or flow-by is most appropriate based on their comfort and responsiveness.

Hospitalization

When a pet requires ongoing observation, fluid therapy, or post-operative care, hospitalization may be recommended. Lougheed Animal Hospital provides in-hospital support for conditions that benefit from professional supervision and medical interventions. Our team monitors changes in your pet’s condition and communicates with you regularly about progress and care options. We aim to create a calm and secure environment for every hospitalized patient.

BP Monitoring

Blood pressure monitoring can offer important insight into your pet’s cardiovascular function during surgery, illness, or chronic disease management. At Lougheed Animal Hospital, we measure blood pressure using non-invasive methods tailored to your pet’s size and species. Whether used during anesthesia or for managing conditions like kidney disease or hypertension, this monitoring helps us respond appropriately to fluctuations in your pet’s circulatory status.

In-House Glucose Testing

Monitoring glucose levels is essential for managing diabetic pets or those experiencing sudden changes in energy, appetite, or behavior. Lougheed Animal Hospital offers in-house glucose testing for timely results during routine exams or emergency visits. This allows us to detect low or high blood sugar levels and adjust treatment plans accordingly. Quick access to results supports more efficient care and timely decision-making.
